TIGER WHO?

JUST HIS PRESENCE BRINGS THE CROWD OUT
The question asked, is why are the major Golf matches, where tiger Woods shows up to play, so much more exciting than those where he doesn't.
Let's face it for a little over 30 years Tiger Woods, in one way or another has been in the sports news. Starting as a five year old phenom; appearing on TV to show off his skills. The golf world waited with great anticipation to see just how his presence would affect the game.
They were not disappointed, out of the gate, he racked up wins, and in the process he brought the Game of Golf to the forefront of American Sports Entertainment. Ticket sales rose, more spectators started to show up, and the individual money awards grew.
Yes Tiger Woods, was the best thing to happen to Golf since the invention of the Three Wood. Of course being of mixed race he had his detractors, and out right haters, but all that hate and animosity had no affect on the juggernaut that was the Tiger Wood's Golf, Show.
Every time he played he performed another miracle on the golf course. he improved on some shots and invented others. He took the fear out of trying to make shots, and that attitude now serves a whole new field of younger players.
Eventually the adrenaline rush that Tiger experienced, was too great even for him. He was transported to a state of constant euphoria. How do you live with a perpetual high. Here Tiger proved himself to be just as human as the rest of us.
To those who hate tiger woods and figure he was way too brash and condescending, his fall from grace was, Christmas and their birthdays roll into one. For those of us who just liked the magic of watching him play his style of all out Golf, it is still a big disappointment.
But whether you love him or hate him the fact remains; Tiger Woods, is still the biggest draw in the game. When he announces his participation in a tournament, the venues sell out. The galleries are packed, and the air is electric.
Will this be the come back match that all of his [fans] are waiting for? Or will it be another chance for those who totally dislike Woods to bask in the glory of watching him be defeated?
There was a time when just having his name in the line up was cause for trepidation by the other players. So much so that they gave up the match before they hit the first Tee. If they knew that tiger was playing they considered the match an opportunity to practice, and discounted their chances of wining.
It came to the point where tiger was being paid just to attend the match, this made others more envious of Woods, but with his own private jet and money to burn, his attitude was; have clubs will travel.
So now, after being a slave to his skills, of playing golf, for most his life, it seems that Tiger Woods is pondering what the rest of his life should mean.
In the mean time the anticipation remains the same. Will he make his come back in the next major title match? Will he surpass, Jack Nicklaus', 18 major title wins? With four Majors left to reach that lofty goal, many wonder if the golfing wonder boy still has it in him.
Has he missed his chance? With so many talented younger new comers chomping at the bit can he muster up enough of the old Tiger to go out at the top of his game?
Only the future will tell. but with all these questions yet to be answered you can bet that every time, true golfing fans hear that tiger is in the Game, they will be watching. Either at home on their televisions or right down front in the galleries at the match.
Its sort of like wanting to see Mohammad Ali, do the Ali shuffle just one more time, and as long as that fan factor remains; Tiger Woods, will bring the heat to the game, that electrifying crowd enthusiasm that make a major title match what they have become since he turned pro, and until he retires from the game he will be the biggest draw in golf.

I met Tiger Woods in 1998 at the Johnny Walker Tournament in Phuket. He was actually not in the least bit condescending and was riveting to watch.
I have great faith that he will make the greatest come back ever. Thank you for an excellent hub! I don't feel that Tiger was ever a "slave" to golf. If anything he was the master and will be once again.
