We Have A Formula

2. Deciding If YOU Have What It Takes

3. Putting Together a Plan

4. Executing Your Plan

5. Tracking Your Progress

6. Living Up To Your FULL Potential

1. WHAT IT TAKES

This first blog in the First Glance Online Formula for Success series is designed to help anyone interested in any personal endeavor to evaluate what is needed to make a success of his or her efforts.

It is not enough to wake up one morning and say, “I’m going to be a painter or a mechanic or XYZ.” In order to be successful at any pursuit for personal success, you have to know something about that area of expertise.

Want to be a doctor? That’s a decision made early in life. Somewhere between your sophomore and senior years in high school, you decide, “I’m gong to pursue a career in medicine.”

It takes a minimum of twenty years of intense education to become a doctor. And even after being licensed, there are ongoing educational requirements, and the need to be a published physician in the AMA in order to maintain credibility among your peers.

Some vocations take less time while others take more, but all share the same need for research and evaluation before you leap into that vocation.

And then there’s another matter to consider. You may perceive yourself to be very good at what you want to do, but there are others who feel just as confident about their skills. If your dream has huge payoff for a reward, then you can count on stiff competition and opposition to your participation in the market. Even more so if your actual skills match your perception.

So, start by researching the prospective area of your endeavor and then study it backwards and forwards until you can recite the basics in your sleep.

Ask Tiger Woods about anything dealing with golf. He sounds like a college professor as he rattles off statistic after statistic. He can tell you about a good golf swing, as well as each golf course in America and most foreign courses.

Tennis players know about tennis rackets, tennis balls, the difference between playing on grass and clay, what the judges are disciplined by and a whole host of other areas of information they need to be at the top of their game.

Why all this preparation? If you are dealing in an area such as entertainment, there is media to consider. Step in front of the camera fumbling your words, talking in circles, and making misstatements, and you will definitely be crucified in public. No matter how good you are at what you do, the negative press will affect your chances to get paid.

If you are planning a career in modeling or any of the other performance areas of entertainment, then you need to start studying (fashion magazines, runway shows, etc.) or at least give yourself a fighting chance by putting the resources of a good talent agency behind you.

Additional information to help you decide which way to go with your career can be obtained by commenting on this blog (leave your email address and question) or contacting First Glance Online Talent Management at www.firstglanceonline.com.

Be sure to follow the remaining articles in this series for more insight into First Glance Online’s “Formula For Success’.

Till then, we’ll see you at the movies.

Question is: Will it be in the seats or on the screen. It’s your choice!
