THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES FOR RAPE

As I watch the firestorm, created by Pop Star Rihanna’s new video “MAN DOWN,” I can’t help but wonder who the protesters are rooting for. They claim they are outraged because the video sends the wrong message.

The video begins with a portrait of a young lady making her way through her small village laughing with the children, socializing with the older members of the community, and obviously enjoying her carefree days as a young adult; looking forward to life and what it has to offer.

Later we find her at a local club enjoying the night life. She encounters what some may consider a handsome young man/thug really, and after a dance she decides to leave the club.

He immediately follows the young woman out of the club, corners her in an ally and rapes her.

When the video opens the young lady is singing lyrics of regret that give us insight into her current frame of mind. She is remorseful and scared of her future because she fears being sentences to many years in prison.

So where’s the wrong message. I’m sorry the detractors are all wet. The message they send by condemning the video is that, rapist should be allowed to ply their trade with out fear of any real consequences.

Contrast that to a young lady, who has been physically violated and emotionally destroyed by a social predator who gave no thought to how his actions would affect his victim.

The idea that some victim, who has suffered deep emotional trauma, may decide to take revenge and blow her attackers brains out seems to be the only symbol of justice alive and well in our society.

More often than not a woman victimized by rape is made to feel guilty for being attacked. She was wearing the wrong outfit, she had the wrong attitude, she was asking for it, she really liked it and there for projected a message of implied consent.

Judges give lesser sentences or dismiss rape cases with a wave of their hand and the victims are left with feelings; of absolutely no sense of personal security or peace of mind.

So as these opinionated on-lookers, stand on the side lines, never having been raped and cry foul over Rihanna’s video; I for one applaud her and the music company, that decided to take on the backwards thinking members of the public, who send a message of support to rapist; that its open season on any young woman who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

From my point of view if they are shot by their victims then it’s not murder, they committed suicide. Because it’s for sure had they not destroyed the mind of the person pulling the trigger, they would live to see another day. In other words, “good riddance to bad rubbish, and kudos to Rihanna.
